Local men will be strapping on some bright red high heels for a very important cause.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes (see page 8 for the story) is starting the conversation about a topic that’s not always easy to talk about.

Domestic Violence.

It’s violent or aggresive behaviour within the home, typically involving the abuse of a spouse or partner. But, it can go much deeper than that.

It can include mental, emotional, or psychological abuse as well. It doesn’t have to be physical, and it happens within the four walls where you’re supposed to feel the most safe.

Did you know 85  per cent of domestic violence victims are women?

Of all reported violent crimes in 2016 in Canada, more than a quarter resulted from family violence.

This is one of the reasons why it’s so important to start the conversation.

If it takes a bunch of men strutting around a hockey rink in bright red high-heeled shoes, then so be it.

What’s important is that it gets people talking.
