A drug trafficking investigation resulted in the arrest of two locals.

The Bonnyville General Investigative Section (GIS), with the assistance of Bonnyville and Cold Lake general duty members, Police Dog Services, and the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Unit arrested two in relation to a drug trafficking investigation.

On July 3, police arrested Sheldon Bienvenu, 38, and executed a search warrant on a vehicle and residence in Ardmore.

Police located nearly 100 grams of what is suspected to be crystal methamphetamine, over 320 grams of what is to be gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), and over $3,700 in cash, two homemade tasers, and other items consistent with drug trafficking.

During the search warrant, police also arrested Jillian Dumontier, 30.

Bienvenu is facing charges including possession for methamphetamine the purpose of trafficking, possession of GHB, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to a prohibition order, and possessions of proceeds of crime.

He has been remanded into custody.

Dumontier has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a prohibited weapon. She was released from police custody on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 7.
