The modernization of BCHS is in the planning stages, with construction expected to start place this summer.

6The student charged with bringing a gun to Bonnyville Centralized High School (BCHS) pled guilty to carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon with ammunition.

On Tuesday, May 1, the BCHS student appeared in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse where he pled guilty to the two charges.

Sentencing was adjourned to July 23 for the completion of a pre-sentence report.

On March 13, Bonnyville RCMP received a call from the principal at BCHS, who wanted to report a student who had brought a gun to school the day before (March 12).

Officers attended the high school and took multiple statements, which indicated the youth had brought the 44 Ruger handgun to school in his backpack, along with two rounds of ammunition.

According to Crown prosecutor Jordan Kerr, although the gun wasn't located in the same pocket of the backpack as the ammunition, the ammo was easily accessible.

Until his next court appearance on July 23, all of the youth's current release conditions still apply. This includes the condition restricting him from attending BCHS.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the Bonnyville Nouvelle can't release the name or age of the youth charged.
