Six arrested after RCMP respond to suspicious vehicle report

Bonnyville RCMP were involved in the arrest of six individuals after a resident reported two suspicious vehicles possibly involved in the theft of an area business.

The provincial government has been brain storming new ways of charging municipalities for policing. Under the proposed formula, counties, municipal districts, and communities with 5,000 people or less will be paying for this service.

Bonnyville RCMP were involved in the arrest of six individuals after a resident reported two suspicious vehicles possibly involved in the theft of an area business.


According RCMP, the vehicles were believed to be a part of a series of other serious crimes.


On Nov. 13, officers patrolled the area where the two vehicles were believed to have been witnessed, and spotted the suspects travelling at a high rate of speed in a dangerous manner.


Bonnyville and Cold Lake RCMP, with the help of Police Dog Services and the General Investigation Services Unit, located the vehicles northwest of Cold Lake.


A spike belt was deployed and the suspects were arrested.


Cpl. Pedro Rodrigues of the Bonnyville RCMP said the two vehicles used in the incident had been reported stolen.


Six known prolific offenders in the area were apprehended, including several youth.


Rudy Eric Cardinal, 19, was charged with possession of stolen property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.


Cody Ryan Spence, 19, was charged with possession of stolen property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, four counts of failing to comply with an undertaking, and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.


Eighteen-year-old Desmond Spence was charged with possession of stolen property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and three counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.


Amongst the six individuals were three youth that faced similar charges. Their names cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.


Glendon store and Co-op gas bar broken into, RCMP looking for suspects


On Nov. 14, at about 2:30 a.m., local RCMP were called to a break-in at the Korner Mart in Glendon.


The suspects backed a white four-door Ford Super Duty pickup truck, which was missing its left brake light and licence plate, into the main doors of the store.


Three suspects wearing face masks, believed to be two adult males and one male youth, stole an empty cash drawer, cigarettes, as well as various food and beverage items.


A short time later, RCMP responded to a break-in at the Bonnyville Co-op Gas Bar.


It was about 3:51 a.m. when the call came in that an early 2000’s gold Chevrolet Silverado backed into the doors to gain access to the store.


The suspects are described as two males and one female, all wearing face masks and blue coveralls.


According to the RCMP, they stole two safes and a deposit box containing tobacco products. The total estimated value of the property stolen was around $2,690.


Rodrigues said at this time, RCMP are still investigating the incidences, but couldn’t confirm if the two were related.

Firearms stolen during residential break-in


On Nov. 14, Bonnyville RCMP were called to a break and enter at a residence.


Residents called police after noticing their firearms had been stolen during the break-in.


Rodrigues said the weapons are long-barrel rifles, and anyone with any information is asked to call the local detachment.
