RCMP searching for bear mace suspect

Police are searching for a 28-year-old Bonnyville woman in relation to a bear mace incident. On Aug. 17 around 7 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP received a call from a female victim, claiming another female pointed and sprayed bear mace at her on 50 Ave.

Police are searching for a 28-year-old Bonnyville woman in relation to a bear mace incident.


On Aug. 17  around 7 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP received a call from a female victim, claiming another female pointed and sprayed bear mace at her on 50 Ave.


The victim said the suspect was in a black vehicle and fled east-bound.


“We conducted patrols and requested Cold Lake RCMP’s assistance in locating her. She wasn’t located at that time and a warrant has been issued for her arrest,” explained Sgt. Sarah Parke, acting detachment commander of the Bonnyville RCMP. “She’s a 28-year-old Bonnyville female that will be facing assault with a weapon charges.”


Man charged with possession of meth


“On Aug. 19, at around 1:30 a.m., RCMP observed a driver get out of the driver’s seat of a stolen vehicle, and believed the driver might have also been impaired,” Parke detailed.


A 37-year-old Frog Lake man was arrested.


During a search police located  crystal meth in his possession, and confirmed the vehicle he was driving was stolen.


He was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession for the purpose of trafficking meth, and possession of crystal meth, and driving while disqualified.


He is scheduled to appear in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse on Aug. 21.


RCMP requesting information


Bonnyville RCMP are looking for information after several diesel filters were sawed off and stolen from vehicles at a local dealership.


Sometime overnight on Aug. 14 or 15, multiple diesel particulate filters were removed from vehicles.


According to RCMP, the filters are quite large and heavy and would have required some skill and planning.


“To a scrap yard... they’re worth about $500, but brand new they’re worth anywhere from $2,000 to $2,500,” said Cst. Tyson Douglas.


The RCMP are asking anyone with any information to contact the local detachment at 780-343-7200.


Police are also requesting any information regarding the theft of parts from a parked Ford F350.


Sometime between Aug. 14 and 16, the entire exhaust system from the truck was removed.


Wires were left hanging, and hacksaw marks were visible.


Brett Gadwa arrested on 18 charges


On Aug. 12, local RCMP conducted a search warrant on a Kehewin residence following the arrest of Brett Gadwa.


Gadwa is facing 18 charges including trafficking government identification, theft of a credit card, six counts of breaching a weapons prohibition, four counts of possession of a weapon  dangerous to the public, and three counts of possession of a weapon.


“He was also wanted for flight from police from before,” noted Douglas. “He was wanted by us for about two months. We were trying to locate him and they found him that morning. We arrested him and based on information we received we performed a search warrant that night.”
