RCMP lay 14 charges in weekend search warrant

Bonnyville-area resident Dean Gamache has been charged with 14 offences after an incident over the weekend.

RCMP were responding to a call about a theft from an oil field site overnight on March 1.

The suspect had broken in and stolen $7,500 worth of batteries, along with copper wire.

Working with Bonnyville General Investigation Section (GIS), RCMP began their investigation.

“The RCMP, while investigating the rural theft of the batteries, attended a residence on Range Rd. 463, near Twp. Rd. 640, and ended up in a foot chase with a 28-year-old male from the Ardmore/Bonnyville area that is well known to police. A search warrant was executed on his property, and several stolen items were recovered,” said Bonnyville Sgt. Sarah Parke.

The batteries weren’t recovered.

Dean Gamache will appear in court on Tuesday, March 6.

He was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, driving while disqualified, possession of a weapon (bear mace) for a dangerous purpose, dangerous driving, eight counts of breach of a recognizance, a breach of his probation, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Man charged for being three-times legal limit

At 3:20 a.m. on March 5, Bonnyville RCMP were patrolling and conducted a roadside stop with a 24-year-old Bonnyville driver.

A impaired driving investigation was undertaken, and the male provided samples which were over three times the legal limit.

He will appear in court April 3 for impaired driving.

Bonnyville man charged with possession of stolen property

On March 4, police received a report of a suspicious vehicle idling near a rural property.

Members attended the location and found a 59-year-old Bonnyville male sleeping behind the wheel.

Officers soon determined the vehicle had been reported stolen, and the individual was arrested and charged.

Further stolen property was located in his wallet during his arrest.

He has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

Call to RCMP proves the power of picking up the phone

On Thursday, March 1, RCMP received a call about two suspicious trucks parked in a farmer’s field in Kehewin.

Officers attended the scene, and determined the trucks had been reported stolen.

The RCMP is reminding residents if they see suspicious activity, to give them a call, because it could lead to stolen property, or an arrest.

Vehicle damaged, items stolen

Overnight on March 2, in Bonnyville, a red Ford Ranger was damaged.

A suspect attempted to steal the vehicle and damaged the ignition in the process.

Items inside of the vehicle were stolen.

RCMP seize weapons and drugs from Bonnyville residence

The Bonnyville RCMP had a successful week after a search warrant yielded multiple charges.

On Feb. 23, local GIS, with the assistance of the local RCMP, executed a search warrant at a residence in Bonnyville.

A 32-year-old male and 27-year-old female were arrested and charged after police found cocaine, meth, illegal pills, drug accessories, a shotgun, and bear spray at a trailer park residence.

The accused have been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two weapons-related offences, and trafficking in property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The male also faces two additional weapons offences.

Both suspects were released on conditions to appear in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse on April 3.
