RCMP investigating graffiti to church

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Elias in Bonnyville has become the victim of graffiti. Bonnyville RCMP were made aware of the incident on April 17. This graffiti was found spray painted on the side of a local church.

According to Sgt. Kim Hillier, police are "exploring all available investigative avenues to determine the suspects," and are asking the public for information.

The back of the church, which is located at 4801 46 St. in town, was spray-painted with a phrase containing vulgar language.

Anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour is encouraged to contact Cst. Katherine Hall at the local detachment by calling 780-343-7200.

Man on warrants arrested

An off-duty RCMP member spotted a wanted male walking in the Town of Bonnyville on April 12.

On-duty officers were called to assist and, after a brief foot chase, the suspect was arrested.

Tyler Grimes, a 41-year-old St. Paul resident, was arrested in an apartment building on 44 St.

Grimes faces new charges of trespassing as the result of running through a resident's yard and frightening the homeowner.

He appeared in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse on Tuesday, April 16, and adjourned his matters to May 7.

Suspicious males stuck in the mud

On April 14, a Devon employee reported a suspicious white truck and two males trespassing on a lease site.

The truck was stuck in the mud and the suspects had damaged a piece of heavy equipment on the site after trying to use it to free the vehicle.

RCMP attended and located the white Dodge dually and the two males.

Sheldon Beinvenu, 39 of Bonnyville, and Alfred Tizzard, a 40-year-old La Corey male, were charged with mischief over $5,000, taking a motor vehicle without consent, and trespassing.

During their court appearance on Tuesday, April 16 in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse, Beinvenu was granted release on $2,500 no cash bail. His conditions include keep the peace, be of good behaviour, remain in Alberta, and have no contact with Tizzard, who adjourned his matters to May 7.
