RCMP charge two with arson following fire on Kehewin

Two Kehewin residents have been charged with multiple counts of arson following a fire on Monday, May 14. Bonnyville RCMP were called to a fire on the Kehewin Cree Nation where trailers and a mobile home were burnt to the ground.

Police are searching for this truck and trailer after it was stolen last week. RCMP are also looking for the suspect’s vehicle, a red Chevrolet Cruze.

Two Kehewin residents have been charged with multiple counts of arson following a fire on Monday, May 14.


Bonnyville RCMP were called to a fire on the Kehewin Cree Nation where trailers and a mobile home were burnt to the ground.


“The fire department attended and we attended, and a couple of trailers and a mobile home unit that was being lived in all burned down,” described Bonnyville RCMP Sgt. Sarah Parke. “The fire was believed to have been intentionally set.”


As a result of their investigation, RCMP have charged 42-year-old Bob Lee White, and his 37-year-old girlfriend Colleen Badger, both of Kehewin.


White is facing five counts of arson against his own property, arson with disregard for human life, and arson with general damage to property.


Badger has been arrested and charged with four counts of arson to her own property,  arson with general damage, arson with disregard for human life, and failing to comply with conditions.


RCMP arrested Badger at the scene. She was remanded. and appeared in the St. Paul Provincial Courthouse on May 18.


White fled the scene of the fire and, as of May 18, is still being sought by police.


“The male fled the scene and there is a warrant out for his arrest,” Parke said.

RCMP searching for stolen truck and trailer


Bonnyville RCMP are on the lookout for a stolen truck and trailer, after they were taken from a Bonnyville Beach residence on May 17 at about 4 p.m.


The truck had been parked at the property with a trailer attached. In video footage, a red Chevrolet Cruze pulls up to the truck. The driver of the car gets out and climbs into the truck.


The passenger of the Cruze slides behind the wheel and leaves, along with the truck and trailer.


Officers haven’t been able to locate either the vehicle stolen, or the car involved in the theft.

A reminder to lock your doors


RCMP are reminding residents to lock and deadbolt their doors after an attempted break-in on 51 Ave. in Bonnyville.


On May 15, a resident called the local RCMP regarding the attempt.


Their screen door was off, and the front door was damaged, but the suspects weren’t able to get inside.


Parke said this is a reminder to residents to always lock their doors, and if possible, install a deadbolt or alarm system.


Man to appear in court after exceeding the speed limit


Local RCMP were conducting patrols on Hwy. 41 on May 13, when they pulled over a driver going 171-kilometres per hour.


A 31-year-old Elk Point man has been issued a summons for a June 19 court appearance as a result.


“He doesn’t get just a fine for that charge because anything more than 50-kilometres over the limit go to mandatory court,” explained Parke.


RCMP called after park was vandalized


“On May 12, we received a report that the Dave Bush Memorial Park was vandalized with spray paint and there were empty alcohol containers strewn about,” Parke described.
