RCMP arrest two following Friday break-in

Bonnyville RCMP, with the assistance of Cold Lake RCMP and Police Dog Services (PDS) have arrested and charged a youth and Edmonton male after a break and enter at a rural residence.

On Friday, Feb. 22, at around 10 a.m., a rural homeowner reported two males had broken into his garage.

When he confronted them, Bonnyville RCMP S/Sgt. Sarah Parke said, the suspects threatened him and claimed they had a firearm.

Police responded, along with PDS, and performed a tactical entry, resulting in the arrest of two males.

One was a 34-year-old Edmonton male who has been charged with breaking and entering.

The second is a 16-year-old youth from the Bonnyville/Cold Lake area. He is charged of being unlawfully in a dwelling, breaking and entering with intent, breach of probation, two counts of breaching conditions, possession of break-in instruments, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, unlawful use of military uniforms, and possession of a weapon contrary to an order.

Parke said the youth had military dog tags belonging to another person in his possession at the time of the incident.

“That’s an offence if they don’t belong to you,” Parke explained.

Both males have been remanded and are scheduled to appear in court via CCTV on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

Parke noted the detachment appreciated Cold Lake RCMP’s assistance with the arrest.

Male arrested for mischief

Ernie Powder was arrested for mischief over the weekend after police were called to assist EMS with an unruly patient.

On Feb. 23 at 8:30 p.m., RCMP responded to a male who was intoxicated by marijuana and had been consuming hand santitizer.

The 41-year-old Bonnyville male was charged with mischief and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

RCMP looking for information following residential burglary

Local police are hoping the public can shed some light on a recent burglary.

On Sunday, Feb. 24, around 9 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP were called to a rural residence on Hwy. 28 for an alarm that turned out to be a break-in.

The St. Paul PDS Unit was called to assist police with tracking fresh tracks in the snow, but were unsuccessful in locating the suspect.

Forensic examination of the scene was conducted, Parke said, adding two guitars were stolen from the property.
