Court Report 2

A "distinct condom" connected Monte Roddie Badger to a vehicle containing stolen property.

On Tuesday, Jan, 22, Badger pled guilty to possession of stolen property obtained by crime, two counts of failing to attend court, and possession of methamphetamine.

He was sentenced to 120 days in jail.

According to Crown prosecutor Jordan Kerr, a unique condom was what helped RCMP make the connection between Badger and a truck containing stolen items on May 11, 2018.

St. Paul RCMP had been called to a rural residence by a property owner who had spotted several suspicious people breaking into their garage and stealing tools.

Several other complaints came in about several individuals in the area of the recent theft, and during patrols, officers located the suspects walking down the road asking for a ride.

An abandoned vehicle was located not far from where the suspects had been spotted, and the stolen items described by the resident were found inside.

Police searched Badger, who was one of the suspicious people located near the vehicle, and found what Kerr described as a "distinct condom" in his pocket. It was a match to one found inside of the vehicle with the stolen property.

A few months later, on Sept. 28, 2018, Bonnyville RCMP were leaving a rural residence in Kehewin regarding an unrelated matter when they spotted a vehicle in the driveway.

The officer approached the vehicle and found Badger inside, who was known to be wanted on warrants.

During a search of his possessions, police found less than one-gram of methamphetamine.

"He's no stranger to the court," Kerr said about the 34-year-old Kehewin man.

Honourable Judge Kathleen Williams sentenced Badger to 120 days in custody in relation to the possession of stolen property charge, 15 days for each count of failing to appear in court, and 30 days for possessing meth. Each sentence will be served concurrently.

Badger has been in custody since Dec. 4, 2018, and has served 75 enhanced days of his sentence.
