Bonnyville RCMP have released the identity of the man who has been charged with assaulting a farmer on Oct. 20.

Marc Roberge, 36 of the Bonnyville area, has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm.

“On Oct. 20, Bonnyville RCMP received a call about an assault that took place on Hwy. 28 and Hwy. 41,” explained Cpl. Chad McRae. “A dark coloured Ram truck stopped suddenly in front of a farm convoy. The driver of the (suspect) vehicle pulled an elderly male out of his vehicle, threw him to the ground and drove off.”

The victim described the incident to police, stating the male in the truck had passed him, gave him the finger, and cut him off, before slamming on his brakes.

“The man exited the Ram, kicked the driver door into the victim, pulled them out of the vehicle, threw him to the ground where he hit his head and went to the hospital where he required stitches,” described McRae. “The victim advised that the subject was known to him and the subject turned himself in to police later.”

Roberge is set to appear in court Jan. 29, 2019.

RCMP arrest and re-arrest man breaching his EPO

Local RCMP arrested 26-year-old Wayne Friesen on Oct. 27 after receiving a complaint that he was breaching an Emergency Protection Order (EPO).

“While dealing with police, he resisted, which involved one RCMP member receiving minor injuries to his thumb,” McRae detailed.

As a result, he was charged under the Protection Against Family Violence Act for breaching the EPO, and resisting arrest.

“He was released on $1,000 cash for those charges,” added McRae.

The day after his release from custody, RCMP were once again called.

According to the victim, Friesen was breaching his EPO a second time for “harassing the complainant via text message.”

McRae said, “He was arrested again and held on a bail hearing. He was charged with criminal harassment, two counts of failing to comply with a recognizance, another charge under the Protection Against Family Violence Act for breaching the emergency protection order, as well as some traffic offences including driving without a license.”

Friesen remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Hit and run results in list of charges

A 33-year-old Edmonton man has been charged after a hit and run involving another vehicle in front of the RCMP detachment on Oct. 31.

“A witness reported seeing the accident and the person responsible leave the scene,” expressed McRae, adding the driver responsible for the collision headed north of the detachment.

One-kilometre down the road, police located the Kenworth cargo truck and the driver, who was charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident, failing to stop at a stop sign, failing to provide a valid proof of insurance, and driving a motor vehicle on the highway while using a GPS.

No injuries were sustained as a result of the collision.
