Police Dog Service Unit joins Cold Lake RCMP

The Cold Lake RCMP has a new unit in their midst.

In May, Cst. Jason Jaques and his unique partner Harp joined the Cold Lake RCMP as the detachment's first Police Dog Service (PDS) Unit.

Jaques said he has always wanted to work as a dog handler, a position his father held with the RCMP for a number of years.

"I don't think there's a better job in the RCMP," he expressed.

According to Jaques, the team has responded to around 95 calls in their short time in the area and they're just getting started.

The PDS Unit is called to areas outside of the city, travelling as north as Fort McMurray.

Jaques and Harp spent five months training together in Innisfail before heading to another detachment for a few months before being posted in Cold Lake.
