Court Report 1

Possession of stolen property, theft of a motor vehicle, stealing a debit card, and breaching her conditions resulted in a three month jail sentence for 30-year-old Zena Cutknife.

On Tuesday, April 2, Cutknife pled guilty to the charges, in addition to failing to appear in court.

She was sentenced by Honourable Judge Kathleen Williams to 90 days in custody.

According to Crown prosecutor Tyler MacLean, on Nov. 3, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. a woman called RCMP claiming her vehicle had been stolen overnight.

Kitscoty RCMP found the vehicle later that day damaged in a ditch.

Cutknife was found inside of the vehicle and was arrested.

She provided a statement at the St. Paul RCMP detachment confirming her involvement.

On Feb. 20, 2019, Cutknife’s mother called 911 to report her daughter had stolen her vehicle and her debit card.

Police found Cutknife in the vehicle not far down the road and she was arrested.

MacLean described Cutknife’s criminal record as “aggravating.”

According to the Crown, there are five prior failing to comply convictions, as well as six property-related offences.

Defence counsel Hart Spencer agreed the 90 sentence was a joint submission.

As of Tuesday, the mother of three had spent 66 enhanced days in custody.

Williams sentenced Cutknife to three months in jail, with 24 days left to serve.
