H.E. Bourgoin School (H.E.B.) and Glendon School will be seeing some fresh faces behind the principals’ desks.

Jeannine Ellis has been appointed as the principal of H.E.B.

“It was offered to me as a transfer and I accepted it.”

While she will be switching out of her current role as principal at Iron River School, Maureen Ference will also be getting ready for a change in scenery.

As of the new school year, Ference will be known as the principal of Glendon School.

“When the opportunity was presented to me to lead Glendon School, I accepted,” Ference said in a release.

According to Nicole Garner, communications officer for Northern Lights Public Schools (NLPS), spring is generally the time of year when “we find out what our openings are at our various schools for teachers and administrators.”

When determining who will get the job, the NLPS board takes skillset and experience into consideration.

“Maureen had tons of experience. She had done an excellent job in building leadership capacity in her current school and working with the community to meet the goals that they’ve collectively set for the school,” detailed Garner.

Ference will finish off the school year in her role as principal of H.E.B., a position she has held since 2004. Prior to that, she worked as a teacher, program consultant, school counsellor, and assistant principal at a jr./sr. high school in Elk Point.

“I look forward to creating a strong, collaborative culture through building strong relationships with the staff, students and families at Glendon School,” noted Ference in a release.

Ellis has three years of experience as a principal, and prior to her step up the education ladder, she worked as a teacher for three years. She also had a teaching stint at H.E.B., before going back to Iron River School.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity, looking forward to being back at H.E.B., and being in a middle school, but it’s very hard to leave Iron River School. This is my community, it’s exciting, but it’s hard to leave,” she expressed. “I’m excited to reconnect with the staff there, parents, students, and the community. It’ll be a change for sure.”
