Court Report 4

The intoxicated male that broke the glass door of the Bonnyville Boston Pizza will pay the price.

On Tuesday, Cory David Piche, 34, stood before Honourable Judge Robert Shaigec in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse after pleading guilty to mischief causing damage under $5,000.

Piche said he doesn't recall the July 19 incident, but believes Crown prosecutor Renato Di Lorenzo's description of the event.

Di Lorenzo told the court that on that day, police were contacted by the Bonnyville restaurant about two extremely intoxicated males causing a scene.

The men were refusing to leave the restaurant.

When RCMP arrived, they found the men inside. Piche refused to identify himself, but went with officers willingly, until they reached the door leaving the establishment.

This, Di Lorenzo said, was when Piche kicked out his foot, smashing the window pane in the door.

Defence counsellor Hart Spencer agreed with the $750 fine suggested as a sentence by the Crown.

Spencer noted although Piche is a member of Cold Lake First Nations, he now resides in Edmonton.

When asked if he had anything to say to the court, Piche apologized for his actions.

"It's not something I would normally do. It was the alcohol. I don't even recall this happening... Even to hear this is embarrassing," he exclaimed.

Shaigec agreed with the joint submission and sentenced Piche to pay a $750 fine.

No request for restitution was made by Boston Pizza.
