RCMP charge male with arson

A 24-year-old male from Wabasca has been charged with three counts of arson after fire crews responded to a blaze eight miles south of Bonnyville. At approximately 8:30 p.m.

A 24-year-old male from Wabasca has been charged with three counts of arson after fire crews responded to a blaze eight miles south of Bonnyville.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. June 3, the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority were called to a fire on a wooded property on the west side of Muriel Lake.

With the assistance of area fire departments, the blaze was extinguished without injury or damage to structural properties.

The RCMP Forestry Crime Unit and Alberta Forestry Investigators assisted with the investigation and determined multiple ignition points were the cause of the fire.

Harry Auger, 24 of Wabasca, has been charged with three counts of arson, possession of an incendiary material, and failing to appear.

He is set to appear in court July 16.

A warrant is out for his arrest after Auger failed to attend the RCMP detachment as per the Indentification of Criminals Act.

Local units, members work together in arrest

With the assistance of Cold Lake RCMP and Police Dog Services (PDS), local police were able to arrest three suspects in relation to two stolen vehicles.

It was roughly 6 a.m. on June 20 when members were called to a report of two vehicles in the ditch.

Officers located the vehicles, and after further investigation, learned they had been reported stolen out of Bonnyville.

One of the suspects was still inside one of the vehicles and was taken into police custody, while two others had fled on foot.

Cold Lake RCMP and PDS assisted, and a 26-year-old female and 18-year-old male were arrested, in addition to a 19-year-old female from Ermineskin First Nation.

According to Sgt. Kim Hillier, all suspects face “multiple charges including possession of weapons and stolen property.”

Brief foot chase ends in arrest

Local RCMP were conducting patrols in the Kehewin area when they spotted a male known to police.

The male fled on foot, but was quickly caught by the officer.

A 38-year-old Kehewin male was arrested on outstanding warrants and faces additional charges of obstruction.

Fighting in the street has consequences

Police were called about a street fight in town on       June 19 at around 1 a.m.

Hillier said RCMP received a 911 complaint about mulitple people fighting on             45 Ave.

When officers arrived they located two suspects sitting on the road.

Both appeared to have been in a physical altercation.

The suspects fled on foot, and later, a 29-year-old male from Bonnyville was located.

He has been charged with assault and uttering threats.

Driving while prohibited lands repeat offender in prison

James Wilgus, 43, was arrested and charged after RCMP caught him driving while prohibited on June 19.

It was around 4 p.m. when an officer patrolling the Glendon area saw Wilgus behind the wheel of a motor vehicle contrary to his prohibition.

He was arrested and has been remanded into custody until his first court appearance June 25.

Report of a suspicious vehicle

A call from the public about a suspicious vehicle resulted in police locating a Ford Focus that had been reported stolen out of Calgary.

Two males, one from Lloydminster and one from Stoney Plain, and a female, were arrested and charged in relation to the incident.

Their first court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 6 in Bonnyville Provincial Court.
