Local RCMP, EADCRU team arrest three following break and enter

With the help of the Eastern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit (EADCRU) the Bonnyville RCMP and General Investigative Section (GIS) have arrested three following a break and enter and theft of firearms.

Bonnyville RCMP have arrested and charged three men in relation to the theft of five long barrelled firearms.

With the help of the Eastern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit (EADCRU) the Bonnyville RCMP and General Investigative Section (GIS) have arrested three following a break and enter and theft of firearms.

“The use of video surveillance by a home owner assisted with this investigation,” said Sgt. Sarah Parke of the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment. “The use of devices such as trail and door bell camera's or other surveillance equipment can help catch a criminal in the act.”

On May 14, local RCMP received a report of a break and enter that occurred at a residence and several outbuildings on a rural Bonnyville property.

Multiple long barrelled firearms and power tools had been stolen.

With the help of Bonnyville GIS and EADCRU, RCMP conducted an investigation and the suspects were identified.

Four days after the incident, on May 18, police executed a search warrant on an apartment complex in Bonnyville.

Two men were arrested as a result, with a third male arrested at another residence on May 22.

Five long barrelled firearms and power tools were recovered at a separate rural location.

Gordon Dumais, 38, Randy Cardinal, 30, and Lionel Normand, 59, were each charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit theft, and breaking and entering with intent to commit mischief.

All three suspects have been remanded into custody. Dumais and Cardinal will appear via CCTV in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse on June 5, while Normand will appear on May 28 via CCTV to the St. Albert Provincial Courthouse.

Several firearms related charges are also anticipated but have not been sworn.
