The local General Investigation Section (GIS) once again worked collaboratively with Cold Lake GIS to get the job done.

On Friday, Aug. 17,  Bonnyville RCMP assisted the Cold Lake detachment, the RCMP Emergency Response Team North, the Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Team, and the RCMP Police Dog Services with the arrest of two individuals suspected to be involved in the homicide of 34-year-old Ellie Mae House.

On the morning of Aug. 14, House was found dead, and the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit was dispatched to conduct an investigation.

The following day, an autopsy revealed House had been killed by a single gun shot wound, and further investigation led police to believe the suspects had fled to the Cold Lake area in a black Ford truck.

As a result of the collaboration of several units, Nora Flora Papin, 31, and Neil Benjamin Morin, 33, of the Paul Band First Nations were arrested in relation to House’s death at a Cold Lake First Nation residence on Aug. 17.

“Our GIS joined forces with Cold Lake’s GIS, along with other units... Together they worked as a team, set up containment, and communicated well with one another to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution,” said Sgt. Sarah Parke, acting detachment commander for the Bonnyville RCMP.

Both suspects have been charged with second degree murder, and are scheduled to appear in the Stony Plain Provincial Courthouse on Aug. 22.

“It was good collaboration amongst the two local GIS units. They prove day-in and day-out they can work really well together. The assistance one provides the other, and vice-versa, never ceases to produce positive results,” Parke added.
