Kamryn Hauber-Foisy and Katelyn Corbiere, 16, have been selected for soccer training in Boston, MA, USA.

“I was pretty excited. I couldn’t sit still,” said Kamryn.

Katelyn agreed, “I was ecstatic. I’ve never had such soccer opportunities in my life, so I really took a hold of it.”

Peak Athletic Academy, a sports group based out of Fort McMurray, is organizing the one-week trip for 16 girls to Boston, where they will be busy training, competing, working on team building, and considering future academic prospects. They will also have an opportunity to experience college and university level soccer.

Kamryn and Katelyn are hoping to refine their skills and get top-level training.

“The girls will get to play a higher level of soccer, and they’re also getting a lot of different coaching experiences through prestigious colleges and universities,” explained Richard Smyl, parent of one of the St. Paul players.

Peak Athletic Academy has organized these training trips before for their hockey teams, but it will be the first trip for the soccer players.

Both of the local girls and their parents are excited for the trip.

“I’m so proud of her. She’s putting in a 100 percent effort, she’s going that extra mile for her coaching in Bonnyville and doing extra training in the evenings by herself,” said Kim Foisy, Kamryn’s mother. “It’s a lot of hard work, she’s been putting in a lot of effort, and I’m proud of it.”

Katelyn’s mom, Wendy Corbiere, said, “We’re very proud parents.”

Both of the girls started playing soccer at a very young age, and their hard work and persistence have finally paid off. This trip is an opportunity for Kamryn and Katelyn to showcase their skills in a completely different environment.

If the opportunity were offered, Katelyn would like to play for a university team, as she is planning to attend post secondary next year, while Kamryn would also grab at the chance to play soccer professionally.
