Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

In response to “Be a parent,” a letter that ran in last week’s edition of the Bonnyville Nouvelle:

Kudos to Stephanie!

I would add...

Never give your child a cell phone.

It’s too late (without a major upset) to correct a midstream problem in their teenage years.

In pre-teen years as they grow in responsibilities and get a part-time job, learn to budget, and value their time and monies. Then parents can sit down with junior and discuss the possibility, if true need warrants it, of him/her purchasing their own phone and paying their part in a family phone plan.

This is wise, and therefore realistic parenting.

In this way, we can safeguard our children from these horrific statistics.

The teenage brain is not fully developed and therefore is in need of parental guidance. Cutting the screen time is a must for both parent and child. We lead best by example.
