Joy ride goes to the dumps

Three intoxicated men’s joyride didn’t go as planned. According to Sgt. Sarah Parke, acting detachment commander of the Bonnyville RCMP, local officers responded to the theft of an unusual vehicle on July 30. A 911 complaint came in around 9:30 p.m.

Three intoxicated men’s joyride didn’t go as planned.


According to Sgt. Sarah Parke, acting detachment commander of the Bonnyville RCMP, local officers responded to the theft of an unusual vehicle on July 30.


A 911 complaint came in around 9:30 p.m., where a caller claimed three males, who were later determined to be “grossly intoxicated,” had stolen a dump truck, Parke detailed.


“They weren’t able to drive it very far before being located by RCMP.”


A 21-year-old St. Albert male has been charged with breaching probation, and theft over $5,000.


Man claims he simply didn’t know any better


A 44-year-old Bonnyville man has been charged with failing to stop for police in addition to a speeding ticket.


On July 29, Bonnyville RCMP were conducting radar patrols on Hwy. 28.


At around 8 p.m., an officer attempted to pullover a speeding vehicle.


The suspect didn’t stop regardless of the officer’s flashing lights.


RCMP took down the license plate and later contacted the suspect, who said he wasn’t aware he had to pull-over for the pursuing officer.


Cold Lake RCMP seize drugs, cash, and a weapon


A search warrant has resulted in the seizure of what the Cold Lake RCMP is describing as a “significant quantity” of drugs. Cash and a firearm were also located during the July 31 search warrant.


With the assistance of Bonnyville RCMP’s General Investigation Section, a search warrant was executed on a residence in Bonnyville Beach.


As a result, 604-grams of cocaine and 430-grams of crack cocaine were seized, in addition to about $10,000 in cash, a vehicle, and an SKS rifle with ammunition.


Zachary Ryan Smith, 24, of Edmonton, has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.


Dalton Jake Bruyere, 24, has also been charged. The Edmonton-male is facing two counts of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime exceeding $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and careless storage of a firearm charges.


Both men will appear in the Cold Lake Provincial Courthouse on Aug. 22.


Smith was released on a $2,000 no-cash recognizance.


Bruyere was released from custody on a $2,500 cash recognizance.


Bonnyville GIS assists Cold Lake with search warrant


Working with the Bonnyville General Investigation Section, the Cold Lake General Investigation Section arrested 32-year-old Jeffery Francis Burke.


On July 26, a search warrant was executed on a Cold Lake residence.


Eight ounces of psilocybin, two ounces of cocaine, and a quantity of methamphetamine and cannabis  marijuana was seized.


About $2,000 in cash was also seized at the scene.


The Cold Lake male has been charged with possession of psilocybin for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cannabis marijuana, and possession of proceeds obtained by crime.


Burke will remain in custody pending his next court appearance at the Edmonton Provincial Courthouse on Tuesday, Aug. 7.
