Instill the love of a good book

When I look back on my childhood there are plenty of things that come to mind, but one of them stands out just a bit more than the rest. My love of reading stems from a very young age, and I have my parents to thank.

My love of reading stems from a very young age, and I have my parents to thank.

You wouldn’t necessarily think that taking the time to read to your child could really make that much of a difference, but it does.

When I was little, my parents would read to me every night, that is, until I got old enough to do it myself.

I would often get caught with a flashlight hiding under the covers well past my bedtime reading, because “it was just getting to the best part.”

I have been a strong advocate for putting down phones and enjoying the moment.

Which is kind of why I never completely jumped on the e-reader bandwagon.

I have enough screens in my life as it is, the last thing I want to do is take away the nostalgia of turning the page and getting completely lost.

That love of reading has only gown over the years, and I have my parents to thank for that.

My passion for words and writing started off by reading books like the Magic Tree House.

I don’t know if there are studies to prove it, but I believe that what you surround your children with, whether it’s books, technology, or anything else really, it can have a major impact on who they become, what they do with their lives, and what makes them tic.

I know that when it comes time to raise my own, I am going to make sure I carve a little time out everyday to read to them, because those are the little things that will help build character.

I know it’s easier said than done, and that life can get in the way, but I also know that this is something I have always been passionate about.

Reading to your children has so many benefits. It helps build their imagination and creativity, develop language and listening skills, and just gets them off to a good start.

I know reading isn’t for everyone, but it can really make a difference, one page at a time.
