Understanding Canada’s criminal justice system can be complicated.

A man charged in relation to the Glendon gas and dash theft was sentenced to one month in custody.

Roland Shane Halkett, 33, appeared in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse earlier this month, in relation to a number of incidents taking place across the Lakeland.

He pled guilty to six charges including threats to cause death or bodily harm, theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property, causing a disturbance, and breach of conditions.

On March 21, Lac La Biche RCMP were called to an alley behind 102 Ave. after Halkett had approached someone and threatened to hurt him.

Less than a month later, on April 18, Bonnyville RCMP responded to a gas and dash at the Glendon Korner Mart.

Halkett had been pumping gas when the driver took off, leaving him behind.

On May 14, Halkett was arrested by Lac La Biche RCMP after the Home Hardware store had called about a stolen bike.

Halkett was found riding the bike later that day, and admits that he stole it.

Lac La Biche police were called on July 13 at around 2:30 p.m., about a fight outside of TD Bank.

According to Halkett, the pair were arguing when it went one-step further.

"I grabbed him and we fell backwards. He hit his head on the cement," he described.

Honourable Judge Kathleen Williams sentenced Halkett to 30 days in custody. He had been in prison since his arrest.
