Firearm, knife located on suspect by local RCMP

A routine traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a wanted man and the seizure of a sawed-off shotgun, bear mace, and a knife. It was just after 9 p.m. on Nov. 2, when Bonnyville RCMP pulled over a vehicle for an equipment regulation violation.

A routine traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a wanted man and the seizure of a sawed-off shotgun, bear mace, and a knife.


It was just after 9 p.m. on Nov. 2, when Bonnyville RCMP pulled over a vehicle for an equipment regulation violation.


One of the passengers, a 37-year-old Saddle Lake man, was wanted on warrants.


During his arrest, police located a knife, sawed-off shotgun, bear mace, and ammunition in his possession. 


According to Bonnyville RCMP S/Sgt. Sarah Parke, the suspect has been charged with possession of a restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of weapon possession contrary to an order, possession of a firearm or weapon in a motor vehicle, an two counts of breaching his conditions.


The driver, a 38-year-old Kehewin male, was also charged with breaching his conditions in relation to a no contact order.


Speeding, meth, and failing to follow court orders


An officer pulled over a speeding vehicle at around 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 4.


“Further checks on the driver revealed that he had conditions to remain in Manitoba. He was arrested for breaching that condition because he was obviously in Bonnyville,” Parke noted, adding the vehicle was towed.


The arresting officer located a meth pipe.


The 29-year-old Dauphin, MB male has been charged with failing to comply with his conditions and possession of crystal meth.


He was released from custody on a $400 cash bail.


His first court appearance was on Nov. 6, but he adjourned his matters to Nov. 20.


Driving twice the legal limit


“On Nov. 8, around 1 a.m., we received a complaint of an erratic vehicle,” explained Parke.


RCMP located the vehicle, and noted the driver displaying signs of impairment.


The suspect was arrested and brought back to the detachment where he provided two breath samples.


“Both of which were more than twice the legal limit,” Parke said.


The driver is facing impaired over .08, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.


“Those are the charges that are pending, because the information hasn’t been sworn,” Parke added.


He was released on a promise to appear in court.


Cold Lake RCMP assist in arrest of a Bonnyville theft suspect


A homeowner called Bonnyville RCMP on Nov. 8 at about 2:30 a.m. after scaring off four individuals believed to be attempting to steal a quad from a hotel parking lot.


Two vehicles were believed to be involved, but by the time the resident called the police, they had fled the scene.


“We had the description of their vehicle and the direction they had left in,” Parke said, adding with the assistance of Cold Lake RCMP, they located one of the vehicles involved.


A 19-year-old Cold Lake male was charged with mischief, and three counts of breaching a condition as a result.


RCMP looking for info following multiple vehicle thefts


After several vehicle thefts, the Bonnyville RCMP are asking the public for any information.


A 2015 Ford Eagle was stolen from the Glendon area on Nov. 3. It was located behind Lakeshore Dr. in town.


Sometime between Oct. 31 and Nov. 2, a Ford Super Duty was stolen from the La Corey park and ride. It’s described as black and tan with the license plate BZG 2132.


A blue Chevy Cobalt was stolen overnight on Nov. 5, and later located in the Cold Lake detachment area, and a Ford van that went missing on Nov. 2 was found in Cold Lake.
