Cold Lake RCMP locate drugs in routine traffic stop

A routine traffic stop in Cold Lake ended in drug-related charges. Sheldon Troy Bienvenu was arrested and charged on Oct. 10 after Cold Lake RCMP conducting regular patrols spotted a vehicle that looked to be unfit for the road.

A routine traffic stop in Cold Lake ended in drug-related charges.

Sheldon Troy Bienvenu was arrested and charged on Oct. 10 after Cold Lake RCMP conducting regular patrols spotted a vehicle that looked to be unfit for the road.

Further investigation revealed the driver, who was identified as 40-year-old Bienvenu, was breaching conditions of a court order by driving.

During a search of the vehicle, crystal methamphetamine, various drug paraphernalia, weapons, and a large sum of cash were found.

As a result, Bienvenu has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of failing to comply by possessing illegal drugs, two counts of failing to comply by keeping the peace and being of good behaviour, failing to comply with a curfew, and failing to comply by possessing a weapon.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Cold Lake court on Nov. 20.
