Five were arrest after local RCMP were alerted by the public a stolen vehicle was headed towards Cold Lake.

On Feb. 25, in the early morning, Elk Point, Bonnyville, and Cold Lake RCMP were notified by the public that a stolen vehicle was headed to the city.

Police located the suspect vehicle, but it failed to stop and fled.

During an attempt to deploy a spike belt, the driver drove toward an officer, causing him to jump over a snowbank to avoid being hit.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop in Ardmore, and the occupants attempted to flee to a second vehicle.

Officers intercepted and arrested the suspects.

Jason Nunweiller, 43 of Cold Lake, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and obstructing a police officer.

Tasha Marten, a 36-year-old Cold Lake female, is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, unlawfully resisting arrest, and obstructing a police officer.

Three youth, who can't be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act were also arrested.

A 15-year-old has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, assault with a weapon, flight from police, obstructing a police officer. failing to comply with an undertaking, and possession of a controlled substance.

Charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, assault with a weapon, failing to comply with a probation order, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property over $5,000. assault with a weapon, obstructing a police officer, and flight from police, was a 16-year-old youth.

Another youth, 14, was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, assault with a weapon, flight from police, obstructing a police officer, and resisting arrest.

Cold Lake RCMP Sgt. Ryan Howrish said, "This was an excellent display of communication and coordination between detachments in our area. We were able to safely apprehend suspects while minimizing risk to our community members."

Suspect bitten by police dog pleads guilty

Andy Lacombe, the suspect bitten by Cold Lake Police Dog Services (PDS) in October 2018 during a pursuit, was sentenced to three years in jail.

According to Cold Lake RCMP, Lacombe pled guilty to uttering threats towards a Cold Lake PDS member, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police, operation of a motor vehicle while disqualified, taking a motor vehicle without consent, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and possession of a firearm contrary to a court order.

On Oct. 1, 2018, Cold Lake and Pierceland RCMP, with the assistance of Cold Lake PDS, arrested and charged Lacombe following a pursuit where he was suspected of possessing a firearm.

Lacombe sustained injuries to his abdomen and jaw as a result of a dog bite as he attempted to flee officers.

Over one month later, on Nov. 15, 2018, Cold Lake General Investigative Section initiated an investigation into threats of violence towards the Cold Lake police dog handler and service dog. As a result of the investigation, with the assistance of the RCMP Special Tactical Operation team, and Pierceland RCMP, a firearm which Lacombe had in his possession at the time of the October 2018 pursuit, was located.

Cold Lake RCMP working with CLFN to create safety committee

Cold Lake RCMP are working with Cold Lake First Nations to organize a Safety Committee that would address issues in the community.

Although it's in its early stages, the intent of the committee is to hold meetings to create strategic partnerships with community stakeholders.
