Several fire departments across Alberta and the communities they serve have been subject to fraudulent fundraising activities.

This has prompted the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) to reach out to the community and remind the public that their fundraising efforts take place in a face-to-face manner.

According to the BRFA, other communities' residents are receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be a member of their local fire department. They advise the resident they're conducting fundraising efforts and are seeking cash donations.

In all instances, the fire departments mentioned weren't conducting any fundraising, and they don't fundraise in this manner.

The BRFA is using this as an opportunity to let residents know neither they nor EMS conduct fundraising by telephone. They're hoping the message will be shared and will prevent any residents in the area from being exploited.

For more information, call the BRFA at 780-826-4755.
