The Bonnyville RCMP received a number of reports of break and enters to local businesses, with some resulting in damage to property and upwards of $40,000 worth of equipment being stolen.

Sgt. Kim Hillier noted a report was received from the Town of Bonnyville on April 1 that their maintenance yard was broken into, and two vehicles were damaged.

“Catalytic converters were cut off of a Sterling truck and an F-250 truck. Some evidence was actually gathered at the scene so that investigation is ongoing,” she said.

On April 2, an employee at Lifting Solutions Inc. reported that over $40,000 of equipment was stolen.

“What was stolen from that particular business was a number of particulate filters. There were five particulate filters stolen, and each of those filters have a very high dollar value,” Hillier noted.

She encouraged the public to keep an eye out for any attempts to sell that type of equipment and to contact police to assist in them finding the filters.

A report of stolen 2007 Ford Mustang was received on April 2 from Jansen Auto, after they had made a report that a vehicle had been damaged.

The stolen vehicle is described as a two-door, 2001, black in colour. When it was stolen, it had an Alberta license plate FAL 215.

If you have any information, contact the Bonnyville RCMP  at 780-343-7200.

Mischief calls on the rise

Hillier noted that with the warmer weather approaching, they’re receiving more calls for general mischief.

One instance included someone walking down the street with a stick scratching people’s vehicles.

“Obviously, we do certainly appreciate when people call in so we can put a stop to this kind of behaviour. But, we’d also appreciate that even though summer’s here and we want to get out and about, we have to be careful about other people’s property as well.”

Speeding a focus for April

Handing out speeding violations is Bonnyville’s traffic initiative for the month.

Within the first week of April, eight speeding tickets were issued.

The Vermilion Traffic Unit also assisted with speeding violations.

Hillier encouraged drivers to be aware of how fast they’re going, especially in school zones.

“We had one female charged with speeding in a school zone this time. We need to be careful in school zones with the kids getting excited for summer as well,” she said.
