Bonnyville RCMP have arrested two females in relation to the armed robbery that took place at Sonny's Liquor Store in the fall.

Angel Blackman, 27 of Cold Lake, has been charged with robbery with a prohibited firearm, disguise with intent, pointing a firearm, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

A 17-year-old female youth, who can't be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with robbery, disguise with intent, pointing a firearm, assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm.

"The females went into Sonny's Liquor Store (in October 2018), and through video surveillance, police were able to determine there were three females wearing masks and gloves, and sprayed bear mace in the eyes of the clerk working at the time," explained Bonnyville RCMP Sgt. Kim Hillier. "Two were believed to be armed with firearms, and demanded cash from the clerk after assaulting her."

The suspects stole several bottles of liquor before fleeing the scene.

Blackman was released from police custody by a Justice of the Peace on a $500 cash bail recognizance, while the youth was released on a $400 cash bail recognizance.

Both are scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 5.

Troy Atkinson remanded, facing 10 charges

On Jan. 29, Troy Atkinson was arrested and charged with theft of a truck, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, failing to comply with a condition of an undertaking, mischief, possession of methamphetamine, and unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon.

The 20-year-old Bonnyville male was apprehended by Bonnyville RCMP with the assistance of the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EADRCRU).

Hillier detailed, "The accused was observed by witnesses walking away from the scene of a crime where a snowmobile had fled from the owners and crashed into a barbed-wire fence."

Through an investigation, members of the EADRCRU and local police located and arrested Atkinson for possession of property obtained by crime.

It was through further investigation, Hillier noted, that police found a set of brass knuckles.

"The follow-up investigation after interviewing the suspect is what led to all of the additional charges. It's a very in-depth investigation that lead to the multiple charges."

Atkinson has been remanded into custody until his court appearance.
