Cold Lake RCMP were called to a residential area during the early morning hours of March 31, where an intoxicated woman was attempting to break into vehicles.

The complainant had shouted at the female hoping to "scare her off." The suspect ran a few houses down the street before continuing her attempts to gain access to parked vehicles.

Officers attended and took the female suspect into custody without incident. The file remains under investigation and residents are reminded to contact police when they see suspicious activity.

The Cold Lake RCMP are asking members of the public not to confront suspects. Not only for their own safety, but also because it gives them the opportunity to escape before officers arrive.

Downtown foot patrols seeing results

Business owners and the community are welcoming the increased police presence in downtown Cold Lake.

For close to six months, Cold Lake RCMP officers have been conducting foot patrols in the city's core, and as a result, the detachment is receiving positive feedback from those in the area.

"The patrols have been well received by the members of the public," said Cpl. Sean Dutch. "We have received numerous comments from businesses in the area expressing their appreciation and we enjoy getting out and interacting with the general public as well."

The primary focus of the initiative is to enhance police visibility and presence, as well as public engagement. Having RCMP officers out on the street allows them to interact with the public, and acts as a deterrent to potential criminal activity.

Mountie swaps Stetson for helmet

With the warmer temperatures, local kids are jumping at the opportunity to get outside on their bikes, scooters, and skateboards.

The Cold Lake RCMP are encouraging parents to make sure their children strap on a helmet, and practice good safety when they're out riding. If you're having trouble getting your child to wear a helmet, the RCMP recommend setting a good example by riding with your kids and wearing a helmet yourself.

Motorists and pedestrians alike are reminded to be vigilant and slow down in parking lots, as well as school and playgrounds zones. Approximately 7,500 cyclists are seriously injured in Canada every year.

"Let's keep our little ones safe by slowing down in our neighbourhoods," expressed Cpl. Marie-Eve Mackenzie-Plante.
