Every year, the local 4-H clubs host a Achievement Day Show and Sale. This year, the event will be taking place on May 28.

It’s time to celebrate the achievements of local 4-H clubs.

For the first time, the 4-H Achievement Day Show and Sale will feature all six district clubs, whether they’re horse, beef, or puppy based.

That means the Longriders 4-H Horse Club, the Ardmore Wolves, and Scruffy Puppies will be in on the action.

For the past couple of years, all of the Lakeland clubs have tried to organize an event where they each get an opportunity to share their achievements with the community.

“Every year, the Bonnyville 4-H District holds our annual show and sale,” explained Bailey Hobbs, district key member. “This year, we’re incorporating more of our district than just the beef.”

According to Matt Janz, MD of Bonnyville director of ag and waste services, which plays a role in the organization of the event, they have finally found a location where they can make it happen.

“When we changed the venue (of the Achievement Day) to the rodeo grounds, it made it easier for everybody to come out and display all of their projects,” Janz explained.

This is the first year they will be hosting the event at the rodeo grounds.

Janz is hoping it will draw even more residents out.

“Last year, we had a phenomenal turnout. I think we had 200 or close to 300 people,” he expressed. “We’re hoping this one is just as well received at the rodeo grounds.”

Through the Achievement Day, members of each 4-H club will showcase their project. The Longriders will have riding demos, while the Scruffy Puppies will show off their dogs tricks.

Like other beef clubs, the Ardmore Wolves will have their projects on display.

“The main focus of the event is the beef. They start off showing each of their projects in the afternoon, and at the same time, the other kids can show their projects. Each youth will have the displays they have, everybody can come out and check it out,” detailed Janz.

The Achievement Day show takes place from     11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, May 28, followed by the dinner at 5 p.m., and awards at 6 p.m.

The beef sale will end the night starting at 7 p.m.

Hobbs feels it’s important for kids in 4-H to show off their hard work to the community, and through the show and sale, they have the perfect platform.

Janz agreed, “I think we should celebrate all of the youth in 4-H and what they’re doing with their projects, whether it’s horses, dogs, or beef. We want to encourage them to do 4-H because there are so many learning activities that the kids do.”
