The Bonnyville Renegades dominated the Alberta Championship football game to become the tier three provincial champions.

The undefeated northern division champions headed to Strathmore on Saturday, Nov. 12, to take on the champions of the south, the Badgers.

The Renegades started the game off with a touchdown on the opening kickoff from Vadin VanDenBossche to take an early lead in the game.

The Renegades scored 60 points in the first half of the macth up and went on to win the championship by a score of 72-8.

“I don't know how to explain this,” said head coach Kevin Sartain, who said he has never seen a football team quite like theRenegades.

They had four passing touchdowns, an interception returned for a touchdown and around 800 yards in offence.

The Badgers, who had an impressive season of their own going undefeated and shutting out their opponents four times, impressed Sartain.

“But then they ran into the Renegades,” said Sartain.

Duncan Critch, Ryan Brundige, Cooper Prybysh and Izahia Sartain were key players for this team throughout the championship game for Bonnyville.

At one point in the game, the Renegades went for it on third down and 50 and were able to get the first down from Critch.

“This was their Super Bowl and nobody was taking it from them,” said Sartain.

Throughout the season the Renegades won games with ease, but this provincial championship game was like no other.

They dominated from the opening kickoff right until the very end of the game, which made it a lot easier for Sartain.

“They said not only are we not going to lose, were not even going to give our coach a little bit of a heart attack to think we're going to lose,” said Sartain.

This game also happened to be the last game for coach Sartain on the sidelines of this football team.

In his four seasons, he has taken the team to the championship every year, and won it three times.

“It's a good way to end it let me tell ya.”
