The Bonnyville Renegades continued their quest for a second straight league title on Sunday afternoon with a 56-0 demolition of the Lloydminster Steelers.

A dominant running attack combined with a successful passing game propelled the Renegades to their biggest margin of victory in franchise history.

The scoring was early and often for Bonnyville in the first quarter as the Steelers came out to a flat start.

“I was thinking Lloydminster was going to come out a litter harder than that, but they have had a rough season,” said Renegades coach Kevin Sartain.

Quarterback Miles Debler got the scoring going by punching in a short rushing touchdown nine minutes into the first quarter.

Titus Fagnan followed that up three minutes later with huge 35 yard touchdown run in which he weaved his way in and out of the Steelers defense.

Three minutes after that Debler and Fagnan teamed up for a 13-yard touchdown pass in the endzone to put the Renegades up 22-0.

After a Tyler Verrier interception Duncan Critch got a chance to show off his speed.

Critch took a handoff from Debler and trucked his way down the field bowling over defender after defender en route to a 49-yard rushing touchdown.

A few minutes later Parker Reed got in on the scoring when he ran the ball in from four yards out for a touchdown.

Critch added another touchdown late in the second quarter and the Renegades took a 42-0 lead in to half time.

“We had a good start. I know in the second half we were a little sloppy, but when you are 42 points up at half they were playing around at that point,” said Sartain.

Reed ran in the only touchdown of the third quarter and Critch added another TD in the fourth as the Renegades cruised to their sixth win of the season.

Bonnyville will travel to Lloydminster next weekend to face the Colts in the peewee league finals. Both the Renegades and Colts finished with 5-1 records during the season. Point differential lead to the game being held in Lloydminster.

A victory would see them host the provincial finals the following weekend at Walsh Field.
