Registration day is just around the corner.

Clubs, organizations, non-profits, you name it; it will be at the Col JJ Parr Sports Centre on Saturday, Aug. 26 for the 21st annual Community Registration Day.

But, before it can all happen, clubs, teams, and the like need to register for the event. The deadline to sign-up is Friday, Aug. 11.

Dinah Coles, community recreation coordinator for 4 Wing Cold Lake, said any clubs or programs looking for volunteers or registrants will have a table the day of, where they will explain what their group is all about.

“People come in and go to each table to see what they have to offer. Those who are able to take off-site registrations can do so,” explained Coles.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features organizations like the local Boy Scout groups, Kinosoo Ridge Ski and Snow Resort, the Lakeland Humane Society, and Cold Lake Victim Services, among others.

In order to register for a table, clubs first fill out a form, which can be found on the City of Cold Lake website. They're then dropped-off at the JJ Parr Sports Centre, City Hall, Cold Lake Energy Centre, or the Cold Lake Community Learning Centre.

For parents looking to register their little ones for sports teams or clubs, this is the place to be.

Coles said for some, early registration at the event is the make or break of whether or not their child gets in.

“It also gives an opportunity to see what the city has to offer,” Coles added.

In some come cases, presidents or organizers will be on-hand to discuss one-on-one what their club is all about.

It's that communication that can make a difference.

“It really helps people understand what's going on,” Coles said.

With all of the clubs at their fingertips, it's easier for residents to ask questions, learn more, or sign-up.

“I believe that people in Cold Lake are very active and they're always looking for something to do. This event shows people what the community has to offer. It's a good opportunity to have the information come to you,” noted Coles.
