Big change, small town

Dear readers, My name is Josh Thomas, and I am very pleased to introduce myself as the newest addition to both the Bonnyville community and the team here at the Bonnyville Nouvelle.

Dear readers,

My name is Josh Thomas, and I am very pleased to introduce myself as the newest addition to both the Bonnyville community and the team here at the Bonnyville Nouvelle.

I can't wait to learn the ins and outs of what makes this town tick, but before we get into that allow me to tell you a little bit about myself.

I grew up in Hamilton, Ont. Chances are if we ran into each other I would have had a hockey stick or a football in my hand. Now I could tell you that was because I love sports, but that would only be half true. More than I love sports, I love the stories behind the sport.

Think about it, which is more exciting? The Nashville Predators beat the Anaheim Ducks 6-3 on Monday May 22, 2017. Or, the eighth seeded Nashville Predators defeated the Anaheim Ducks 6-3 on Monday May 22, 2017, sending their young franchise to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time ever.

For me it's all about the human side of it, the back-story, not the X's and O's. That love for finding the deeper meaning beyond the result lead me straight to studying journalism and ultimately played a huge part in my decision to leave home and join the Nouvelle.

In a big city like Hamilton it becomes very easy to overlook the human-interest aspect and focus on the what. Don't get me wrong, I love my hometown, it's a better city than it gets credit for. However, the fact remains hundreds of Hamiltonians with important, inspiring, and educational stories to tell go unheard every day. It's nobody's fault in particular, there's just too much going on to cover everything. That's why I'm so excited to join your community; I feel I have the opportunity to help ensure everybody's voice is heard. It's a unique opportunity and one I will not take for granted.

If you have something you feel is important to share with the community, I want to listen. If you have any comments, questions or concerns, I want to hear them, no matter how big or small. When everybody gets a chance to say their piece, the difference between a city of 747,000 people and a town of neighbours becomes clear. I am excited to bring you the same quality news you have come to expect, I am excited to learn all there is to know about Bonnyville, but above all else I am proud to call myself your new neighbour.
