Grande Prairie shutout and sent home after lopsided loss to Pontiacs in Bonnyville
The Jr. A Pontiacs continued their dominance over Grande Prairie this season, trouncing the Storm 6-0 Wednesday night in Bonnyville.
Earlier this month the Storm travelled to Bonnyville and were sent home with two stinging losses of 5-2 and 6-3. Wednesday at the R.J. the Pontiacs were even more on point, not allowing a goal and walking all over the Storm in the offensive zone.
Pontiacs forward Keith Csizmadia ripped the first goal and eventual game winner past former Sherwood Park Crusaders goalie Patrick Terriss, who was traded to the Storm this past week, to get the scoring started only five and a half minutes into the first period. Forward Levi Ansell followed that up with two goals of his own to close out the first frame.
Terriss was on the bench to start the second, but that did not seem to help the Storm's cause, as Grande Prairie allowed two more goals late in the period, from Blake Leask and Tommy Barszcz, to push the Pontiacs lead to 5-0 heading into the third.
With the game out of reach Pontiacs forward Dillon Currie netted his fifth of the season halfway through the third for good measure.
Leask added two helpers on the night for a three-point game, while Tanner Dusyk and Branden Domoslai also picked up two assists on the night.
Dusyk said it was a heated battle right from the drop of the puck, making it even nicer to get the two points.
"The last two games were pretty heated battles and I think this was just an overflow from that," he said. "It's fun playing these guys. It's always a fast, competitive game and it makes it nice to getting the win over these guys."
Pontiacs starting goalie Dylan Wells made his fifth straight start and came up with all 19 saves, earning his third shutout of the season.
The Pontiacs are right back at it Thursday (Dec. 22), playing their final game before the holiday break. The Pontiacs welcome rival Sherwood Park to town. The Crusaders are trying to catch the Pontiacs in the standings, trailing by only four points, while the Pontiacs are trying to keep pace with the third place Lloydminster Bobcats, who have one more point than Bonnyville and one more game played.
Puck drop for Thursday's game is at 7 p.m.
